OSP VOLUNTEERS

The Oregon Star Party would not survive without all of the wonderful people who volunteer to help out.

General Volunteers are needed for 2 hour shifts to help in the Registration Tent, Information Tent, and Activities Tent. We also use volunteers to help with parking, traffic control, shower ticket taking, and a new position this year, "on the fly" squad.

We have a special door prize drawing on Saturday for those who volunteer during the week. Each two hour volunteer shift comes with a special door prize ticket that's just for volunteers. A drawing will be held along with the regular door prize drawing on Saturday.

We will remind you of your volunteer times upon arrival at the OSP. They will be posted in the Information Tent with all volunteers reporting 15 minutes before their shifts for a briefing at the Information Tent.

General Volunteer Opportunities

Information Tent: Assisting with answering questions of OSP attendees in regards to OSP activities; lost & found; OSP message board; and helping with general volunteer needs. Youth Activities, Telescope Mentoring & First-Aid volunteers will be directed to the appropriate committee member for additional information.

• Registration Tent: Duties include greeting attendees and answering any questions that may come up, as well helping arriving new arrivals check in and register.

• Greeter at Reg Tent: In charge of stopping all who pass along the 800 road to encourage them to register while the registration tent is open. Assist them with the parking areas, camping restrictions, and the 5 MPH limit.

• Gate Entry Volunteer Requirements: Stop people at the Stop Sign near registration tent 10a-11a or 7p-8p. Assist them with the parking areas, camping restrictions, and the 5 MPH limit. Encourage them to come back during the open hours of the registration tent to register.

• Activities Tent: Help with the activities as directed by the Activities Tent Team member in charge.

• Greeter stationed at the 800 & 802 Junction: Stop every vehicle going in and out along the 802 road. The goal is to minimize the number of trips and speed. Also very important point to make it to all RV’s to note the signs prohibiting larger RV’s or trailers from camping beyond the posted signs after the gravel loop of the 802 road. Smaller van conversions and tent trailers are ok to camp along tree line beyond gravel loop. Will have a copy of the on-site map to assist in discussing the potential camping locations.

• Shower Truck Ticket Collector: Collects the shower tickets. Shower tickets will be sold in the Information and Registration Tents. There will be an early shift Friday and Saturday mornings that start at 8 AM when shower truck opens.

• Photographer Assist: Assist the Photographer at 3pm on Saturday for crowd control

• Site Setup: Assist with placement of signs, setting up of inside of OSP tents, greeting any early arrivals.

• Site Breakdown: Assist with taking down signs, packing up insides of OSP tents, checking around the OSP site for any tossed papers, cans etc., especially around the toilets, registration & activities tents.

• Fly Squad: Respond on the fly to needs that may come up unexpectedly.

This is a great way to meet people, help out OSP and have lots of fun too!

We fill about 500 two hours slots during OSP.
