The Oregon Star Party's Observing Awards program was begun in 2006 by current director Dave Powell. The Awards are divided into three levels of difficulty, with new lists published prior to each year's OSP. This year's Observing lists were developed by Jim Todd (Level 1: August Splendors), Ken Hose (Intermediate Level), and Matt Vartanian (Level 3: Armenian Splendors).
Each OSP attendee who completes an Observing Level has their records reviewed by a committee member. Upon approval of their observing records, observers receive an award and can purchase an Observing Award level pin. Many thanks to committee member Scott Schierman who graciously loaned the use of his on-site printer to generate the awards, which were distributed during the door prizes on Saturday afternoon. Those awards not distributed at that time were mailed to the the recipients.
At the 2010 OSP, 66 observing lists - - approximately 11% of total OSP attendees. were completed: 40 August Splendors, 16 Intermediate List, 5 Armenian Splendors. Also, 5 Observing Lists from previous years were completed: Before Midnight, 2 Essence of OSP, Caldwells All Over, and Fuzzies in the Dark.
Congratulations to the 2010 Oregon Star Party Observing Award recipients!
